ING appoints Georges Rassel as non-executive independent Director

Georges Rassel has been appointed Non-Executive Independent Director in the Board of Directors of ING Luxembourg.

Mr Rassel is a well-known Luxembourg businessman and civil engineer who has been working with Paul Wurth SA, an international Luxembourg-based engineering company, since 1988. After joining Paul Wurth’s management team as COO in 2011, Mr Rassel took over as CEO in 2015 and led the company towards becoming the leading partner for the decarbonization of ironmaking plants worldwide, while at the same time orchestrating the successful integration of Paul Wurth into the SMS group, which had started in 2012.

Earlier this year, Mr Rassel stepped down as CEO to join the Board of Directors of Paul Wurth SA with a special focus on e-fuel initiatives and projects, including the cooperation with the Paul Wurth chair at the University of Luxembourg. Additionally, Mr Rassel holds two external board mandates: one in a Luxembourgish paint manufacturer and one in the Federation of Luxembourgish Industrials (FEDIL, “The Voice of Luxembourg’s Industry”).

“I look forward to working with Georges. His extensive background in the industry, his network and high recognition in the local market will be key assets for ING in Luxembourg”, Michael Burch, CEO ING in Luxembourg.

“This is an exciting mandate”, stated Mr Rassel, “in which I bring an outside perspective from an industry that has also undergone substantial change and innovation with the rise of automation and digitization. I look forward to becoming an ambassador and representative of ING in the local and global arena.”

According to Peter Vandekerckhove, chair of the Board of Directors of ING in Luxembourg, “Georges is a great addition to our team with his track record in leading successful international projects and his focus on sustainable innovation.”

The announcement follows the agreement by the supervisory authorities to the appointment.
